GISA APPOINTS SUCCESSOR TO DR. MICHAEL DRAKE
After a regional and national search, the Georgia Independent School Association is pleased to announce that the future Executive Director will be Dr. Jeff Jackson, currently the Head of School at Mount Vernon Presbyterian School in Atlanta. Dr. Jackson will take on his new responsibilities with GISA effective July, 2009, following the retirement of Dr. Michael Drake, who will continue as Executive Director through the coming school year.
Dr. Jackson is amazingly well prepared for this new role and knows the GISA well:
- First, he knows the GISA schools well. Following a period in church ministry, Dr. Jackson began his career as Assistant Headmaster at Tattnall Square Academy in Macon, then moved on to Louisiana as Head of First Baptist School in Shreveport. Returning to Georgia, he served as Development Director and Principal at Deerfield-Windsor in Albany, and since 2002 has provided exceptional leadership to Mt. Vernon Presbyterian School in Atlanta.
- Second, Dr. Jackson is well prepared and a perpetual learner. With degrees in sociology, religion, and a terminal degree in educational leadership, Dr. Jackson's latest educational venture (2008) has been the completion of his MBA from Shorter College. In addition he has served as adjunct professor at several universities in his "spare" time.
- Perhaps most importantly, Dr. Jackson has a passion for the mission of GISA as well as a charisma and vitality that will be infectious.
The Georgia Independent School Association (GISA) is an association of private, independent, and parochial schools throughout the state. In Georgia, as throughout the nation, each member school is unique. Each shares a commitment to overall excellence and to the nurture and care of the physical, intellectual, social and moral development of all students.
The GISA was established to provide coordination of and services for member schools, dissemination of information between and among the schools, and to join other regional and national bodies in providing leadership on important educational issues. In addition, the Association attempts to foster close relations between member schools and the colleges and public schools in the State of Georgia.
The Georgia Independent School Association is a full member of the Georgia Private Education Council (GPEC) and is an affliate of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS).
